Doris Jones was born on October 1st, 1955 in Selma, Alabama. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Selmont Community Baptist Church. Doris departed this life April 30, 2024
at the age of 68. She filled those 68 years with experiences and successes of which she was deeply proud. Moving from Selma to Birmingham Alabama at a young age Doris graduated
from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with an Associate's Degree and pursued a career in federal and local civil service. Her dedicated service earned her the respect of subordinate,
peers, and superiors across several positions throughout her career.
Doris believed in the value of a good education, for that reason she pursued her Bachelor's and Master's degree at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. She traveled every
weekend for months to graduate with both degrees in 1997 and 1998 respectively.
Doris sought the things she most wanted throughout her life. Whether that was an education, a Volkswagen Bug or a home overlooking the city of Birmingham, all of which she
ultimately got through dedication to hard work and faith in the Lord.
Doris was a tireless fighter. In both her personal and professional life, she maintained a relentless dedication to fighting for what she loved and believed in. She fought cancer and won.
She fought hardest for her son Ryan who she leaves as her testimony to the world she leaves behind. She gave more of herself to the success of her son than she did to any other aspect of her
life. The proudest title she carried for most of her life was "Mom".
Doris leaves behind brothers Arthur, Fredrick, and Anthony and sisters Amie, and Carolyn. She was preceded by her brother and sister Willie, and Rita Lynn.
Finally, Doris loved the city of Paris and longed to visit her entire life. Her son, out of respect for that love and unfulfilled dream plans to spread her ashes in Paris giving eternal
meaning to her lifelong dreams.
Viewing and Visitation will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 from 8am-5pm. The celebration of life will be Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at Ashley's JH Williams Chapel. The staff and management at Ashley's JH Williams extends our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the entire Jones family.
