Eddie Collins Obituary

Eddie Collins, resident of Selma, AL. transitioned on August 29,2021 at Regency Hospital in Meridian, MS.  Eddie James Collins was born on October 10, 1964, to the late Eddie Louis. Collins and the late Lillian Collins in Suttles, Alabama. He was the eldest son of 7 children. He accepted
Christ at a young age and was baptized at Macedonia Apostolic Church under the Reverend Robert
Petus. He later moved to Birmingham Al and joined the Cathedral of the Cross, Where he was a very
active member up until his illness.
Eddie is preceded in death by his beloved parents Mr. Eddie Louis Collins & Mother Lillian
Collins, and Sister Shirley Ann Collins-Thomas.
He graduated from Keith High School in Orrville, Alabama, where he won numerous awards and
honors as a Keith High school basketball player. He was also a Ronald Mcdonald High School Basketball
All-American Recipient. Upon graduation, he went on to earn a basketball scholarship at the University
of Alabama at Birmingham. Eddie was a 6’8 forward/Center and played from 1984 -1988. Eddie came to
UAB as the top-rated player in Alabama and was listed on the “Ten most wanted” list. He scored 729
points in his UAB career. He ranked 8 th on the most blocks list with 99 blocks. Eddie’s best game at UAB
was 31 points scored vs. South Alabama. One of the proudest moments in his life was winning MVP in
the Sunbelt Conference. After Leaving College, he pursued an International professional basketball
career overseas, where he also achieved lots of success.
Eddie had many hobbies, such as creating and fixing things. He also enjoyed cooking and was a
master chef in the Kitchen. Eddie enjoyed teaching the game of Basketball at many camps throughout
Alabama. But most importantly, Eddie was a very devoted and loving and supportive dad and granddad.
He would always go over and beyond for his daughter and his grandchildren. Eddie never missed any
important moments. He did things like taking part in field days and field trips. He was always there to
cheer on his grandchildren at Football games, basketball games, and cheer competitions.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: A loving and very devoted daughter Ellicia (Denard
Harris) Of Loganville, GA, and one honorary Son Isaiah Jackson- Dennis of Lawrenceville, GA. One Sister
Gloria Collins-Sturdivant (Richard Sturdivant) of Marion JCT AL. Three Brothers Edward Collins of
Birmingham, AL and Andrew Collins of Marion JCT and Keith Cole of Chicago IL, one special nephew
raised as a brother David Collins (Janea) of Granada Hills, CA Eight Aunts Alice Deyampert of Marion AL.;
Fannie Bell Harris Of Marion, AL; Bobbie Tate of Warner Robins, GA; Viola Davis of Newnan Ga, Queenie
Collins; Tracie Collins; Sandra King Collins; Josephine Collins- Klein; Allie Faye Collins-Perkins all of
Birmingham Al and four uncles Henry Harris; Hosea Rutledge; of Marion Al; Danny Collins and Mark
Collins of Birmingham Al; Five grandchildren Jaylen Brown, Denard Harris Jr, Jayda Brown, Elijah Harris,
Mason Harris; Former spouse and close forever friend Renae Jackson-Watson of Lawrenceville, Ga; God
Mother Ella Lee Bell of Selma Al; God Father William ‘Bill’ Smith of Birmingham Al; Special Friends Terry

Bennett Sr, Raymond Rucker, Earnest Dan Daniels, John Bell, Dylan Howard; Rodney Jackson; Diane
Thomas, Kent James, Ben Scott, Erwin Phillips; Donald Quiney, Don London and the entire UAB
Basketball Alumni Team. A host of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

A family hour for Eddie’s family, friends and fans will be held Friday, September 3, at Ashley's JH Williams Chapel from 6:30-7:30.
