Jimmie L. Thicklin, affectionately known as "Bubba", born December 7, 1958, in Farmersville, Alabama to Albert and Alice Thicklin, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in Selma, Alabama. Bubba was known for his unwavering generosity, infectious laugh, and deep love for his family and friends.
Bubba confessed Christ at an early age and joined First Missionary Baptist Church in Farmersville, Alabama. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he made sure to become a part of a church in every community in which he lived. At the time of his death, he was a devoted member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama.
As an experienced construction worker, Bubba had a hands-on approach to life. His skills were admired by many, and he took immense pride in his work, whether it was building, fixing, or helping others with projects around the house. He was known to lend a hand to anyone in need, whether they were a friend, neighbor, or stranger. Since Bubba passed away, friends, neighbors, and family alike have shared countless stories of Bubba's selflessness.
Proud to be the "baby brother" of his siblings, Bubba's love for family was unmatched. He shared a special bond with his siblings, one filled with humor, affection, and lifelong memories.
Bubba is survived by his son, Nekio Barron of Park Forest, Illinois; his bonus sons, Arsenio McGhee of Millbrook, Alabama, and Michael McGhee of Coosada, Alabama; four sisters, Mattie (Lewis) Evans of Selma, Alabama, Lucille Stover of Minter, Alabama, Flora Thicklin of Montgomery, Alabama and Pearlie Taylor of Selma, Alabama; two brothers, Joseph (Angela) Thicklin of Birmingham, Alabama and Arthur Lee Thicklin of Pineapple, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Albert Thicklin, as well as his sisters, Mary Thicklin, Eva Howard and Annie Mae Thomas; and his brothers, Aron Thicklin, Howard Thicklin and Holman Thicklin.
Bubba's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who
knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 from 9 AM-4PM. The family hour will be held Friday, August 1, 2025 from 4PM-5PM at Ashley's JH Williams Chapel. The homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Farmersville, AL. The interment will immediately follow in the churchyard cemetery.
