John Spence Jr.

John Spence Jr. was born July 26, 1935  to John Spence, Sr. and Niecie Spence in Selma, Alabama. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Beach Island Church.  Later in life, he joined Second Missionary Baptist Church. John began working at a young age shining shoes. He later worked at Howell Veneer. After twenty-nine years of service, he retired from R.L. Zeigler Packing Plant. On Sunday, December 24, 2023, God saw that he was tired, so He opened the gates of Heaven, took his hand, and welcomed him to come rest with Him in eternity. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Spence, Sr. and Niecie Spence; and his wife, Dorothy Spence.

He leaves many cherished memories to: his ex-wife, Julia Jackson; three children, Idella (Larry) Coleman, Peggy Ann Spence, both of Selma, Alabama, and Juliet Spence Howard of Stone Mountain, Georgia; five grandchildren, Kimberly Spence of Selma, Alabama, Ashley Bailey of Birmingham, Alabama, Larry Coleman, Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama, LaDonnis Coleman, and Gabriella Howard of Stone Mountain, Georgia; two great grandchildren, Larry D’Niro Colman and Corry Amari Coleman, both of Montgomery, Alabama; ex son-in-law, Tavin Howard of Stone Mountain, Georgia; a host of other relatives and friends.

 Visitation will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 from 8AM-4PM. A wake will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 from 4PM-5PM  in the chapel of Ashley's JH Williams Funeral Home. Celebration of life will take place Saturday, December 30, 2023 11 AM at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Remains will lie in repose from 10AM-11AM at Second Missionary Baptist Church. The caring staff and management at  Ashley's JH Williams extends our deepest sympathy and prayers to the entire Spence-Howard families.
