McArthur Crittenden was the youngest of 3 boys born to the late Darries and Jewell Crittenden. He was born on June 21, 1946 in Ozark, Al. He was reared in a Christian home and attended St. Mark A.M.E. Zion church regularly. McArthur was baptized at an early age by his Grandfather, the late Rev. George B. Matthews at Little Zion AME Zion Church in Dale County.
Later, his family moved to Ozark and he joined St. Mark AME Zion Church. He was an active and faithful member of the Trustee Board, the Steward Board, the Usher Board, the Sons of Varick, and a Sunday School teacher.
He attended school in Ozark and graduated in 1964 from D.A. Smith High School, formerly known as D.A. Smith Colored School. He continued his education at Troy State University in Dothan, Al. and earned his BS Degree in Criminal Justice. McArthur worked as an Alabama State Trooper and was a member of the Alabama State Troopers Association.
Early Sunday morning on May 28, 2023, he answered the call of the Master and went home to be with his Heavenly Father. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Darries and Hosea Crittenden, and his loving wife, Nena. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, 2 sons: McArthur Crittenden Jr. (Selma, Al.) and Malcom Jamall Crittenden (Christy) of Stone Mountain, Ga.; 2 grandchildren, McKayla Anyce Crittenden and Malachi Crittenden; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.
Celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, June 3, 2023 2pm at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church in Ozark, Alabama.
