Willie Lee Courtland

Willie Lee Courtland was born on July 14, 1933 to Leanna Cooper, and she was raised by her grandmother, Nancy Cooper.  She was the eldest of nine children. God called her home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.  Mrs. Willie Lee Courtland confessed Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church in Orville, Alabama.  Upon marriage to Mr. Amos Walter Courtland, Sr., she became a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.  She served many years on the usher board, the cooking ministry, and she received many accolades for her service, including an award for being the longest-serving usher.  She enjoyed attending church until her illness. 

Mrs. Courtland leaves to cherish her memory seven children:  Clarence Hayes of Detroit, Michigan; Deloris Walker of Selma, Alabama; Nathaniel Courtland Sr. (Virginia) of Selma, Alabama;  Brenda Atkins (John) of Alpharetta, Georgia, Kaye Byrd of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Lorenzo Courtland (Lydia) of Selma, Alabama; Amos Walter Courtland, Jr.  of Montgomery, Alabama; Brother, Jessie Cooper of Selma, Alabama.

She was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.  

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Amos Walter Sr., Daughters: Rosie Lee Courtland and Sharon Courtland; Grandson, Clovis Byrd;  Sisters: Doris Baynes, Dorothy Cooper,  and Emma Lee Edwards;  Brothers:  Herman Cooper, Bobby Cooper, Samuel Edwards, and Ernest Cooper;  Son-in-law, Dale Byrd Sr.;  Two Sisters -in - Law:  Rosa Mae Hatcher and Lula Hatcher; Brother - in - Law, Eugene “Bruh” Hatcher Special cousin Mardesser Folks, and friend, Amelia Page.  

The Homegoing celebration for Willie Lee Courtland will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 11AM at Morning Star Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Henry Minter. Interment will immediately follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens. The professional staff and management at Ashley's JH Williams extends our deepest sympathy and prayers to the entire Courtland family.
