Willis Libert Wright, Jr. departed his life on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, surrounded by a guitarist/vocalist, chaplains and family. He was born on July 6, 1947 in New York, N. Y. Older child of Dr. Willis L. Wright, Sr. of Pritchett, AL and Carrie Bell Little of Mobile, AL.
Willis (Billy) , spouse of Claudia Lampkins Wright fathered four (4) children: Willis, III, Shonda, Cory and Edith (Paul Bellizaire). Grandparent to Corbin Evan (Shonda), Jia Miana and Willis, IV(Willis), Paige Elizabeth and Brad Paul (Edith), and Landon Owen (Jia).
Willis’ educational and athletic background:
•Southern University Laboratory School, Baton Rouge, LA; Letterman in Football, Baseball and Track
•Bachelor of Science from Southern University and A&M College, Baton Rouge, LA; 4-year Letterman in Football

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Edwin and Edith Lampkins, sister-in-law Edwina (Robert)Mosley. Those who remain to cherish his memory include not only his wife, children and grandchildren, but also his brother, Kinnard D.(Jacqui), Aunt Rosemary Little Watson, Aunt Lula Little, nephews Kinnard C. and Jonathan (Kinnard), Nieces Shayla (Jonathan), Tamara and Deborah (Mosley). He also leaves a host of cousins, family, college teammates and friends.
A family hour will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 from 4:30PM-6:30PM at Ashley's JH Williams Chapel. The Celebration of Life for Mr. Willis Wright will be Tuesday, November 14, 2023 10AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Steven Washington. Interment will immediately follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens. The owner, management and staff at Ashley's JH Williams extends our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the entire Wright family.
